Wigan & Leigh College

Weststone Construction successfully delivered the groundworks, earthworks, and substructure package for the Wigan and Leigh College redevelopment, located in the heart of Wigan town centre. The project involved extensive cut and fill operations, with approximately 3,200 m³ of material excavated and 5,100 m³ of engineered fill placed during Phase One, forming piling mats, foundation bases, and key formation levels. A subsequent phase will include the removal of a further 4,000+ m³ of cut material from the site as the development progresses.

Working within a live college environment, Weststone coordinated operations with precision to maintain safe access and minimise disruption to campus activities. Through a collaborative, problem-solving approach, the team worked closely with the client and project stakeholders to overcome project constraints and deliver a technically demanding package efficiently and safely.

This project showcases Weststone Construction’s expertise in complex earthworks and civil engineering delivery, and its commitment to collaboration, adaptability, and engineering excellence across challenging live environments.
